Gulen School in Georgia Fulton Science Academy honors State Senator Chip Rogers

Senator Chip Rogers gets award for trying to push through a State Charter bill that would save the
Gulen "inspired" Fulton Science Academy that was DENIED by the Fulton County Public School board.

Sen. Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock) was presented with the Outstanding Contribution to Education Award from the Fulton Science Academy (FSA) International Heritage Festival Committee.
“The students, parents and teachers at the Fulton Science Academy are a great example of excellence in education,” Rogers said. “Where freedom of educational choice exists alongside increasingly higher expectations, incredible things can happen. It is a wonderful honor to be recognized for supporting education. I am more committed than ever to the goal of giving every student in Georgia the opportunity at a world-class education.”
The second annual FSA International Heritage Festival took place at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park with over 5,000 in attendance. The festival provided attendees with the opportunity to view displays of international arts and crafts, listen to live music, watch cultural dancers and acts from across the world and sample foods from around the globe.
The FSA includes the Fulton Sunshine Academy Elementary School, Fulton Science Academy Middle School and Fulton Science Academy High School. Each of these schools is a tuition free, award-winning, public charter school, which serves approximately 1200 students in grades K-12. Their curriculum focuses primarily on math, science and technology.
These publicly-funded charter schools in the Atlanta, Georgia area are run by the Grace Institute for Educational Research and Resources, Inc.  The name of TEACH ("Technology Enriched Accelerated Charter High") has been changed to Fulton Science Academy High School.

The original name of Fulton Science Academy was "Cosmos Science Academy."  The name "Cosmos" has significance for the Gulen Movement; the Cosmos Foundation in Texas as well as the Cosmos Foundation of Georgia are Gulenist organizations.

Fulton Science Academy was denied their charter renewal by the Fulton County BOE, so they are taking this to the State to get State funding and drown out the local public school funding and authority.  The people of Georgia will soon vote on this bill

ALPHARETTA, Ga. — The fate of the Fulton Science Academy Middle School will likely not be determined by the end of the current school year, leaving parents, students and school staff in a state of flux for at least three more months.
In December, the Fulton County School Board rejected the charter school's application for a charter renewal, effectively severing the relationship between the school district and the academically successful charter school. FSA has been in operation for 10 years in Fulton County and was recently named a National School of Excellence.
Problems with the length of the charter, as well as the flexibility requested by the charter school, led to its denial by the school board.
With local options exhausted, FSA applied to the state Department of Education (GDOE) in December to become a state charter school beginning with the 2012-2013 school year.
According to state officials, the final decision will be made by the state Board of Education in June, once the application has been thoroughly reviewed.
"The GDOE Charter Schools Division is processing the FSA application and working through any issues to ensure that it is properly vetted before the state school superintendent [John Barge] takes a recommendation to the state Board of Education," explained Justin Pauly, spokesman for the state BOE.
