Gulenist Lobbyists in Washington cash-strapped -find sympathetic audience but shut out from Trump Administration #DoesGulenRepresentTurkey #Mueller

Gülenist lobbyists in Washington cash-strapped, but find sympathetic audience This is the fourth article in a series on the Turkish government and Turkish-American lobbying in the United States. In the first two pieces, I discussed how both the Turkish government and its former ally turned enemy the Gülen movement are courting the Trump administration, and particularly Vice President Mike Pence, through Trump-connected lobbyists. In the third piece, I examined the impact, or lack thereof, that Turkish government lobbying has had on U.S.-Turkish relations and foreign policy. The Gülen movement suffers the exact opposite lobbying problem from its Turkish government rivals, who are dealing with a U.S. Congress, president and vice president an increasingly frustrated and angry with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The Gülen movement is “swimming with the stream of popular opinion against Turkey”, as one Washington-based Turkey expert told Ahval. Bilal Ekşili of the Washington Diplomacy Group, a lobbying organisation affiliated with the Gülen movement, agreed. “We have found our counterparts, especially in Congress and think-tanks, to be much more open and sympathetic as awareness of Erdoğan’s human rights abuses gets more coverage.” Ekşili mentioned the alleged plot to kidnap Gülen and the assault on protestors during Erdoğan’s visit to Washington last year as boosting animosity towards Turkey among U.S. politicians. The Gülen movement will have to get as much mileage as possible out of the current political animosity between the United States and Turkey, as it is in no position to run a lobbying campaign on par with that of the Turkish government. Last year, Turkey spent more than 10 times the amount on lobbying than the Gülenists did, and in the first two quarters of this year the Gülenist Washington Diplomacy group has spent less than $30,000between the two groups it has employed, Fidelis Government Relations and Sexton’s Creek.

Last week, Politico’s lobbying blog confirmed that the Washington Diplomacy Group was shutting down its lobbying operations. Ekşili did not respond for comment on the report. Though no one from Washington Diplomacy group has publicly commented on the reason why it has ceased operations, all signs point to the hard financial hit it has taken since its business conglomerates and banks were seized by the Turkish government.
“The Gülenist movement is cash-strapped currently, they lost quite a lot of money, not only in Turkey but outside, so they probably don’t have the same amount of resources,” said Selim Sazak, analyst and doctoral candidate at Brown University.
Joshua Hendrick, a professor at Loyola University in Maryland and an expert on the Gülen movement said it had been dramatically affected, but since the finances of the network had never been transparent, there was no way to put a hard value on the hit it had taken.
The Gülen movement has been cutting back its operations elsewhere as well. For example, the Gülenist umbrella organization TABA moved from its offices close to Congress due to the high rental costs. Another Gülenist inter-faith dialogue organisation, the Rumi Forum, which has been in Washington for close to 15 years, recently moved its offices out of the capital for the same reason.
The Gülen movement has not only had to contend with a greatly reduced cash flow, but also changing financial priorities. “There is great anxiety and concern for the well-being of many movement activists outside of the U.S., especially in Turkey. The movement has mobilised its resources and effort in helping those movement members who face dire conditions,” said A. Kadir Yıldırım, a fellow at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy.
Many Gülen supporters have left Turkey or have become stranded abroad without financial support. The movement has had to redirect much of its current financial resources, time and energy to aiding academics, journalists, students and even sports stars who cannot return to Turkey because of their affiliation with the movement.

But the Alliance for Shared Values and other Gülenist organisations act as lobbyists for the movement in their own right, like some pro-government cultural groups like the Turkish Heritage Organization. In addition, the grassroots of the Gülen movement is still intact in the United States. Much of the outreach for the movement is done by people who have no official position in Gülenist organisations. Even critics of the movement, such as Robert Amsterdam, one of the most public lobbyists for the Turkish government, said organisations affiliated with the Gülen network are very effective. “They should be complimented. They are incredible lobbyists,” Amsterdam said.

The next part in this series will examine one of the main stages in the lobbying fight between the Turkish government and the Gülen Movement, the issue of Gülenist charter schools.

Why would 151 state legislatures take trips to Turkey? Center for Public Integrity investigation

The simple answer this is to gain local favors to open schools and businesses.  But it also has to do with getting approval and bills past for Grants, Bonds, and more support for the Gulen Crime Cartel. The reason the members of Gulen Movement were able to open 162 publicly funded charter schools in just 16 short years.  (1999-2015)

The Federal level members of Congress that have taken trips were also for the same reason and getting support to do business with the Gulen INTERNATIONAL network that is slowly but steadily closing down.

We ask the Gulen Movement in the USA has it really been worth it?  No one wants them in their community when they find out who and what they really are.  They have closed down their DC offices: Rumi Forum, Turkic American Alliance, and many more.  When the Democrats lost the Gulen Movement who was embedded in the Obama White House were and are no longer welcome.

Just why exactly would 151 state legislators from places like Idaho and Texas accept subsidized junkets from a Turkish opposition group now blamed by that country’s government for an attempted coup last summer?
It’s puzzling that state legislators who rarely get involved in foreign policy matters have been courted with international trips.
It’s especially surprising for the invitations to come from a powerful religious movement that until recently ran media outlets and a bank before falling out with the government in Turkey, a pivotal U.S. ally that serves as the gateway to the Middle East. Though followers of the movement deny having supported the failed coup, Turkey has asked the United States to extradite its leader, Fethullah Gulen, a reclusive Islamic cleric who lives in a compound not in Ankara or Istanbul but in the woods of Pennsylvania.
The Center for Public Integrity documented the extent of the trips and found that some state lawmakers who attended them later introduced resolutions supporting Gulen’s controversial Hizmet movement. And some have even supported charter schools that are part of a network from Washington, D.C., to California of roughly 160 taxpayer-funded schools run by friends of the movement.
While some familiar with the lawmakers’ trips frame them as innocuous learning experiences, the trips are meant to transform American community leaders into Gulen sympathizers, according to Joshua Hendrick, a sociologist at Loyola University and a leading expert on the movement.
“It most certainly has the impact of cultivating influence,” Hendrick said. “It is a political effort but it is framed as a grassroots mobilization of dialogue.”Sympathetic to the cause’
The long parade of state legislators who have accepted the heavily subsidized trips from the Gulen movement includes some influential figures. The man known as Illinois’ most powerful state politician, Democratic Speaker of the House Mike Madigan, traveled four times to Turkey on trips sponsored by nonprofit groups associated with Gulen’s Hizmet — or “service” — movement.
In 2011, at least a tenth of Idaho’s state legislators toured the land of the Ottomans on the movement’s dime.
At least four Texas lawmakers who have served on legislative education committees went on the sponsored trips. The Lone Star state is home to the most Gulen-linked charter schools.
California has about a dozen of the schools, as do Florida and Ohio. Arizona, Illinois and Missouri are among the states that have them, as well.
The Center for Public Integrity used lawmakers’ annual disclosures and news reports to identify 151 state legislators from 29 states who toured Turkey between 2006 and 2015 thanks to more than two dozen nonprofits associated with the Gulen movement.
Among those who went on the trips were lawmakers who had rarely traveled overseas. Many had little knowledge of Gulen or Turkish politics. Few of their states have trade connections to Turkey.
But state legislators represent the political farm team of leaders who may someday play in the big leagues of Congress or beyond. Thom Tillis, for one, was first elected to the North Carolina statehouse in 2006 and went on a trip to Turkey with a Gulen movement group in 2011. Fast forward: The Republican is now a U.S. senator serving on the powerful Armed Services Committee, which oversees members of the U.S. military stationed in Turkey.  State lawmakers also shape education policy and hold the purse strings on state budgets, which fund charter schools.

Tennessee Legislation out Gulen Charter School Fraud

This bill didn't past, it was to stop foreigners from opening Charter Schools.  Expect the Charter School laws to change severely now that Gulen Movement is out of favor and has no clout in the USA.

Shameful photo bombing of Gulen lobbyists at White House- Emre Celik and Faruk Taban

What other country can you go from h1-b Visa teacher to leading a top Gulen Lobbying group called Turkic American Alliance?  Ask Faruk Taban, who arrived to the USA to teach in Nevada at the Gulen - Coral Academy of Science.  Faruk went on to develop Accord Institute which was ordered severed by Judge Lavin in Los Angeles to severe ties with Gulen inspired Magnolia Science Academy http://www.magnoliascienceacademy.blogspot.com
From Accord Institute who basically double bills all the Gulen inspired charter schools west of the Mississippi - Faruk Taban hit the big time to becoming the President of Gulen's Turkic American Alliance.   Look at these two fraudsters, making like they are some important part of American politics when their bribe money got them the invitation to the White House.

Turkey this week submitted the extradition request to Washington for the Pennsylvania-based Imam, Fethullah Gülen, suspected as the mastermind of the failed coup in the country.
Top U.S. officials responded to the Turkish government's extradition request, and said they would review the materials as soon as possible. The U.S. government, however, decided to ignore Turkey's concerns by inviting leading Gülenists to a reception at the White House hosted by President Barack Obama on Thursday.
President of the Rumi Forum, Emre Çelik and President of the Turkic American Alliance (TAA) attended the Eid Reception at the White House. The Rumi Forum's website says its honorary president is Fethullah Gülen. TAA is also known to be a Gülenist business organization for Turkish-American entrepreneurs. A quick search on TAA's website brings up countless articles in support of Gülen and his ideas.
Thousands of Turks marched and chanted today for the extradition of Fethullah Gülen from the United States on Istanbul's iconic Bosporus Bridge, where putschists killed at least two unarmed civilians and injured dozens. In return, Rumi Forum's Çelik took selfies at the White House and smiled to cameras. "Special meetings in the Green Room #WhiteHouse" he tweeted.
This is not the first time that the White House showed its support for Gülen-run institutes in Washington.
President Obama sent a letter to Gülen-tied "International Festival of Language and Culture" (IFLC), held in Washington last April. Obama underlined the IFLC's efforts to unite young people from across the globe. The festival was co-hosted by the Rumi Forum and TAA.
Previously, The White House officials declined to comment on the letter.
Meanwhile the US Department of State offered assistance to Turkish authorities in the extradition process of Fethullah Gülen as well as forming a joint team to work through the process.

Speaking to reporters Thursday, State Department Spokesperson John Kirby said "We have offered, as the Justice Department has offered to assist Turkish authorities as they work through this extradition process. We've even offered to host a team, a Turkish team here or to send a team there, a joint team, to help them work through the process."

Yes it is true the Gulen Movement under their numerious groups like Turkic American Alliance, Turquoise Council, Raindrop Turkish House, Niagara Foundation, Mosiac Foundation, Pacifica Institute, Rumi and many more will rope in politicians.  They rope in politicians under the guise of "friendship or dialogue" dinners or give them awards for generic titles like "peace" "scholarship" "friendship" etc.,
